Comprehensive Guide to Maintaining V-Type Ball Valves
On this page

In industrial applications, the V-type ball valve serves as a crucial fluid control device, and ensuring its proper operation is of paramount importance. To maintain the valve's high performance and extend its service life, regular disassembly, cleaning, and precise reassembly are indispensable maintenance tasks. This guide provides a detailed exposition of the disassembly, cleaning, and assembly processes of the V-type ball valve, ensuring that each step is performed according to operational standards and that the equipment is in optimal condition.

Disassembly and Cleaning

During the disassembly and reassembly of the V-type ball valve, special attention must be paid to protecting the integrity of the components and ensuring thorough cleaning. The detailed steps are as follows.

1. Safety Preparation

Before disassembling the V-type ball valve, the following steps must be ensured:

Pressure Relief: Confirm that the pipeline upstream and downstream of the V-type ball valve has been completely relieved of pressure to prevent accidents during the operation.

2. Disassembly Precautions

Avoid Damaging Sealing Surfaces: Handle with care to avoid damaging the sealing surfaces of the parts, especially non-metallic components.

Specialized Tools: It is recommended to use specialized tools when removing O-rings to prevent damage to the parts.

3. Cleaning Agent Selection

Compatibility: The cleaning agent should be compatible with the rubber, plastic, metal parts, and working medium (e.g., gas) in the V-type ball valve.
Cleaning Metal Parts: If the working medium is gas, gasoline can be used to clean metal parts.
Cleaning Non-metallic Parts: Use pure water or alcohol to clean non-metallic parts.

4. Cleaning Methods

Soaking Method: For disassembled parts, cleaning can be done by soaking.
Wiping Method: For the metal parts of non-metallic parts that have not been disassembled, clean with a clean, fine silk cloth soaked in cleaning agent to prevent fiber shedding from adhering to the parts.
Removal of Contaminants: All grease, dirt, accumulated glue, dust, etc., adhering to the wall surface must be thoroughly removed during cleaning.

5. Post-cleaning Treatment

Non-metallic Parts Treatment: After cleaning, non-metallic parts should be immediately removed from the cleaning agent to prevent corrosion from prolonged soaking.
Drying: After cleaning, wait for the cleaning agent to evaporate (it can be wiped with a silk cloth not soaked in cleaning agent) before reassembly to prevent rusting or contamination of parts.

6. New Parts Treatment

Cleaning: New parts also need to be cleaned before assembly.
Lubrication: Use a lubricating grease that is compatible with the metal materials, rubber parts, plastic parts, and working medium of the V-type ball valve. The lubricating grease should be applied to the sealing surface of the sealing part installation groove, rubber sealing parts, valve stem sealing surface, and friction surface.

Pipeline Preparation

Before installing the V-type ball valve, the pipeline needs to be prepared.

1. Pipeline Alignment

Axial Alignment: Ensure that the front and rear pipelines are coaxial, and the sealing surfaces of the two flanges should be parallel.
Support Requirements: The pipeline should be able to withstand the weight of the V-type ball valve; otherwise, appropriate support must be provided on the pipeline.
Blowing Pipeline: Remove oil stains, welding slag, and other impurities inside the pipeline.

2. Valve Body Inspection

Marking Confirmation: Check the markings of the V-type ball valve to ensure the valve body is intact and undamaged.
Functional Verification: Fully open and close the valve body several times to verify its normal operation.

3. Valve Hole Inspection

Removal of Protective Parts: Remove the protective parts on the connection flanges at both ends of the V-type ball valve.
Cleaning of Valve Holes: Inspect the valve holes, clean any existing dirt, and ensure that there are no small particles of foreign matter between the valve seat and the ball to avoid damaging the valve seat sealing surface.

V-type Ball Valve Assembly

When assembling the V-type ball valve into the pipeline, follow these steps.

1. Valve Body Installation

Installation Location: Install the V-type ball valve into the pipeline, and either end of the valve can be installed on the upstream end. A V-type ball valve with a handle can be installed at any position on the pipeline. Valves with gearboxes or pneumatic actuators should be installed upright, that is, on a horizontal pipeline, with the actuator above the pipeline.

2. Flange Sealing

Gasket Installation: Install the gasket between the flange and the pipeline flange according to the pipeline design requirements.
Bolt Tightening: The bolts on the flange should be tightened symmetrically, step by step, and evenly.

3. Seal Performance Check

Check Flange Joint Surface: According to the pipeline design requirements, check the seal performance of the flange joint surface between the pipeline and the ball valve to ensure no leakage.

By following the above steps, you can effectively maintain the V-type ball valve, ensuring its stability and efficient operation in the pipeline system. Meticulous disassembly, cleaning, and assembly not only extend the valve's service life but also enhance the overall performance of the system. Regular maintenance and inspection are key to ensuring the reliability and safety of industrial equipment, helping you to prevent potential problems and ensure smooth production.
